Provident Ambulatory Surgery Centers offer a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery experience, which allows surgeons to provide the most comprehensive ophthalmology and reconstructive surgeries in a convenient, comfortable setting. Provident ASC (Ambulatory Surgery Center) serves the physicians and patients of Memphis and the Mid-South area. The philosophy of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is to promote the skills and knowledge of its personnel to facilitate the enhancement of our patients’ quality of life by improving their vision in a cost-effective, research-based and technologically advanced setting.
A staff member will call you before the day of your surgery. The following information will be confirmed:
Arrival time for your surgery and make sure you know where to arrive.
Review your medication and give any specific instructions about those medications.
Review your medical history and answer any questions you may have about your surgery.
Review confirmation of insurance coverage and your financial responsibilities for surgery
Please get a good night’s rest
NO alcohol, coffee, and minimal smoking
DO NOT eat or drink after midnight unless given special instructions during your pre-operative phone call. This includes gum, mints, hard candy, coffee and/or tobacco products.
DO NOT eat or drink anything unless you have been given special instructions otherwise.
DO NOT wear jewelry or watches and leave valuables at home.
DO NOT wear any make-up or lotion.
DO NOT wear contact lenses.
DO NOT bring your medications.
DO bring a list of your medications.
DO bring your inhalers if you use them.
DO wear comfortable clothing that will not bind the sight of your surgery. If available, a button-up shirt is nice to prevent having to pull your shirt off over any dressing or eye shield.
DO remember to bring a responsible adult (18+) to accompany you and stay until your surgery is complete.
DO expect your visit to last 2-4 hours from check-in to discharge.
You may eat or drink after surgery unless otherwise specified by the nurse, physician or medical staff.
A responsible adult needs to remain with you for 24 hours after your surgery.
DO NOT drive until your physician clears you to do so.
Patients may experience minor after-effects following anesthesia, such as drowsiness, muscle aches, sore throat, headaches, or dizziness. Nausea may also be present, but vomiting is less common. Side effects decline rapidly in hours following surgery but could take a few days before they are gone completely.
Please use your discharge instructions as a resource for activity requirements after surgery. Your surgeon will discuss with you when you can return to work.
After surgery, make sure you take it easy, get plenty of rest, and drink plenty of fluids.
